Skúlagarður was built as a boarding school and community centre in 1953-1959 by volunteers, where locals and community organizations contributed to the work. In 2011, all parts of the building were renovated except for the meeting and dining hall. Now, this is a nice and welcoming property with 17 double rooms, all featuring private bathrooms.
We offer is one extra-large room with disabled access. The other 16 rooms are all of a similar size and with the same design and furniture, ie. two chairs, desk, closet and two bedside tables.
There are 13 rooms in the northern part of the building and 4 rooms have a private entrance from the outside.
Catering, meeting and conferences
We have two large halls for dining and/or events. We can cater 130 people for food, 210 people for events/conferences without food. Our facilities are available for rent with or without catering service.
We welcome groups of 10 people or more for both lunch and dinner for group menus, but this needs to be booked in advance.

We are Salbjörg Matthíasdóttir and Jónas Þór Viðarsson and we live in Árdal in Kelduhverfi. We are sheep farmers and took over Skúlagarð’s operations in February 2019. We learned a lot during our first year of operation and are constantly improving our services.
Salbjörg is the hotel manager and was born and raised in Árdal and therefore knows Skúlagarð and the surrounding area exceptionally well. Jonas’s parents, Harpa Jona and Guðmundur Karl are also involved in the business and are mainly responsible for the restaurant and the kitchen.
