We are located on two of the most popular sightseeing routes, the Arctic Coastway and the Diamond Circle.
Our rooms
We offer 17 double rooms, all featuring private bathrooms.
We have one extra-large room with disabled access. The other 16 rooms are all of a similar size and with the same design and furniture, ie. two chairs, desk, closet and two bedside tables.
There are 13 rooms in the northern part of the building and 4 rooms have a private entrance from the outside.

About us
Hótel Skúlagarður is a family-run business, located on the Diamond Circle and the Arctic Coast Way. We offer 17 rooms, all with private bathrooms.
During summer the hotel features a reception, restaurant and bar but we have limited services during the winter season when we have self-check-in, shorter breakfast times and dinner is only open upon request.
We have two large halls for dining and/or events. We can cater 130 people for food, 210 people for events/conferences without food. Our facilities are available for rent with or without catering service.
Our location is ideal for anyone who is interested in exploring North Iceland and the natural wonders the region has to offer.

Summer season
During the high season, Hotel Skúlagarður operates as a hotel, with a reception and restaurant open for guests and other travellers.
Winter season
During the low season, Hotel Skúlagarður operates more like a self-service accommodation.
Check-in / check-out
During summer, check-in is at our reception from 16:00 – 21:00, please contact us for late arrivals. A few of our rooms have a self-check-in option.
Check-out is before 11:00 on the day of your departure.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in our restaurant daily from 7:30 – 9:30 and is included on the room rate if you book directly online.
Room facilities
All rooms have a double/twin bed, a private bathroom, a WiFi connection, desk, closet and bedside tables. Bed linens and towels are provided.
Hotel facilities
Guests have access to free parking on-site. Reception, bar and restaurant opening times vary dependent on the season.

Attractions
Skúlagarður is located in the middle of the countryside called Kelduhverfi and is at the bottom of Öxarfjörður. Many natural wonders can be found within walking distance of Skúlagarð which not many people know about. There is a wide variety of hiking trails where you can explore caves, the lake Skjálftavatn and in Kelduhverfi there is a lot of bird life, horses and other animals.

Diamond Circle
The Diamond Circle is considered an alternative to the Golden Circle in South Iceland. It is a 260 km sightseeing route, characterised by a number of natural attractions, picturesque settlements and stunning landscapes. Hótel Skúlagarður is located on the Diamond Circle.
Arctic Coast Way
Travelling the Arctic Coast Way means leaving the common routes behind you and going off the beaten track to discover some of the most remote places in North Iceland; a unique adventure following 900 km of coastal roads close to the Arctic Circle. You will find an abundance of activities on the route.
GeoSea - Húsavík
The GeoSea sea baths enable you to enjoy nature in a unique manner. The seawater in the baths are warm and comfortable and the mineral-rich water will caress your skin. Enjoy the stunning view of the mountain range to the west, Skjálfandi Bay beneath the cliffs and the Arctic Circle itself on the horizon.
Ásbyrgi Canyon
Located 11 km from Hótel Skúlagarður. A gigantic, anomalous, horseshoe-shaped rock formation, with an abundance of hiking paths suitable for all fitness levels.
Hljóðaklettar and Vesturdalur
A popular natural attraction. Located in Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, Hljóðaklettar is a distinctive cluster of columnar rock formations.
Dettifoss Waterfall
The greatest volume of any waterfall in Europe. Dettifoss is 45 m high and 100m wide. A nice hiking trail, 34km, goes along the canyon from Dettifoss to Asbyrgi.
Húsavík
The whale-watching capital of Iceland and is located around 50 km from Hótel Skúlagarður. Here you will find a variety of restaurants, cafés and shops.
Arctic Henge
Similar to Stonehenge, the Arctic Henge is a sundial, aiming to capture the sun rays, cast shadows in precise locations and capture the light between aligned gateways.
Lake Mývatn
Located 100 km from Hótel Skúlagarður, Lake Mývatn offers a unique natural environment, where volcanic eruptions have formed its stunning natural features.
